Have you ever had the need to line up data or images and needed some sort of ruler or line alignment tool? This CrossHair application displays two full-screen lines intersecting your mouse cursor when you press a hot key. As you move the mouse cursor, the lines follow over any program or window. The program is tiny, and runs completely transparently until you call up the crosshairs. It's useful for eyeballing any kind of chart or tabular data on screen, and for aligning objects in graphics or design applications. For example, mouse over these screenshots:

The secrets of one of the most remarkable technological finds from Ancient Greece have been probed for the first time using powerful X-ray imaging equipment, specially shipped to Athens.

The Antikythera Mechanism as it is known, is regarded as the world's oldest "computer" and is thought to have been used to predict solar and lunar eclipses and record dates of the ancient Olympiad. Its remains were recovered from a Roman shipwreck off the southern coast of Greece in 1901. The Antikythera mechanism, is an ancient mechanical calculator (also described as the first known mechanical computer) designed to calculate astronomical positions. It was recovered in 190001 from the Antikythera wreck, but its complexity and significance were not understood until decades later. It is now thought to have been built about 150100 BC. Technological artifacts of similar complexity did not reappear until the 14th century, when mechanical astronomical clocks appeared in Europe.

Source: Probing the secrets of the Antikythera Mechanism

Thank you for reading IT Blog

Original post blogged on b2evolution.
