- Improved temperature control = significant energy savings
Carbon nanotubes, which are transparent, flexible, 100,000x as thin as one human hair, 1000x as conductive as copper, will allow windows to control the temperature that goes through it.
These are very energy-efficient, because they only require power to change the state of the window. A constant flow of energy is not required.
- Night vision“Imagine if we didn’t have to rely on artificial lighting to get around at night.”These materials also offer night vision. Called NIR vision, this thin material works as a cheap implementation of night vision.
- Better energy storage: e-boxThe lead-acid batteries we use were developed 150 years ago. eBox uses nano materials to “park” electrons, and then release them for use when necessary. Energy also can be transmitted via line of sight without the grid.
- Water – A primary benefit to saving energyOne of Justin Hall-Tipping’s primary motivations is to provide water to all people. On our current track, we will eventually have to build de-salination plants to get water from the sea, which will require trillions of dollars in energy costs.“But in a world where energy is freed, and transmittable easily and cheaply, we can take water wherever we are, and turn it into what we need.”
- Why this is more attainable than other alternativesFor starters, you won’t have to convince millions of people to change their lifestyle. In fact, he goes so far as to say that:“…we can generate all of the energy we need, right where we are, cleanly, safely, and cheaply.”
The challenge will be to get power plants to cooperate, because
